Changelog
What's new in each version of Inkstone, newest first.
1.0.2
New
- A space's name shows the moment you point at it. Hover a space's icon in the sidebar and its name appears right away in a label above the icon, the way the Dock names its apps. Before, a system tooltip showed it after a second and a half. Long names show in full, even past the edge of the window. To turn it off, use Settings › General › Show workspace names on hover.
Fixed
- A file opened from Finder joins your window. When Inkstone wasn't running, opening a Markdown file could put it in a second window, sometimes with an empty sidebar. It now opens in the window your session restores, with your files in the sidebar.
1.0.1
New
- Hide .md extensions. Turn on Settings › General › Hide .md extensions, and files go by their plain names in the sidebar, tabs, Quick Open and Move To.
Fixed
- Fixed an issue with renaming a file to an empty name.
1.0.0
Inkstone is here: a native Markdown editor for every Markdown file on your Mac. It opens the folders you already have, renders Markdown as you type, and writes plain .md files back. No import, no database, no account.
New
- Spaces. Put any folders on your Mac into a space (a blog, a repository, the vault you've kept for years), each with its own tabs, splits, name and icon. Switch spaces and the whole desk comes with you.
- WYSIWYG all the way. Markdown becomes the page as you type. No preview pane, no raw syntax springing open under the caret, and nothing reflows when you click into a heading.
- All of Markdown, rendered in place. Tables with drag handles, task lists, footnotes, math, highlighted code blocks, images, video and PDFs, all saved as plain text.
- Wikilinks across folders. Type two brackets and pick any file in the space, whatever folder it lives in. Aliases, heading links and ⌘-click to follow, compatible with the Obsidian vault you already have.
- Watches the folder. Point a space at the folder your coding agents write to. New files, moves and edits show up as they land.
- Focus and Typewriter. Focus Mode fades the page down to the paragraph under your hands. Typewriter Mode keeps that paragraph at eye level as you type.
- File versions. Every save keeps a version. Step back through them with a diff of what restoring would change.
- Native, not Electron. SwiftUI with ProseMirror inside, quick with ten thousand files and two-hundred-thousand-word documents.
- Made yours. Built-in themes with a CSS variable editor, a searchable font picker, export to HTML, PDF and rich text, and an interface in 18 languages.
- Nothing leaves your Mac. Inkstone collects nothing and sends nothing, and needs no account to work.
